Technology must recreate society

I read a good article by Joe Costello that suggests that technology has to be used to reshape how goods and services are provided in society rather than blindly be used to advance the current mode of production of these goods. Of course, no conscious decision may be required to shift the use of technology to this new purpose if market forces dictate the change.
